SPOKEN ENGLISH: How to describe your hometown?

Translate lesson on 100+languages:

Take your cup of coffee and let’s start!
Take a moment and think how would you describe your hometown?

-The first thing you will say is the location of the city.
Then, is it a small or big city or maybe a village?
Is it a popular tourist destination?
What do the people who come want to see?
Do you live in an urban or rural area?

Urban: Do you live in New York City? Tokyo?
Berlin? Then you live in an ‘urban’ area. Urban is simply a word that means ‘big city.’ There’s no limit to how ‘small’ an urban city can be.

Rural: Is your hometown surrounded by farms? By trees?
Do you live in a village? Your hometown could be ‘rural.’ Rural is the opposite of urban: rural means ‘agricultural’ or ‘smalltown.’

You can also add:
-What are the main industries in your hometown?
-What languages are spoken there?
-Why do you like to live there?

We will see two examples:

My hometown is Paris, the capital city of France.
Paris is located in northern central France. It is well-known for fashion, history, museums, architecture, and music.
The official language of the country is French. But in the parts of the city that see the most tourists, people will understand and talk to you in English.
It’s an urban city.
You can meet all kinds of people here and different cultures and languages.
The main industries here are: fashion, art, tourism, banking, car sales, food, luxury goods, telecommunication, media, and transportation.
The most visited tourist attraction in Paris is the Eiffel Tower.
Both children and adults like Disneyland Paris.
I like Paris because I grew up here and we have the best food in the world!

Next example:
I live in Berlin. It’s a huge city in Germany.
I’ve been living there for five years since I finished university.
It’s a bustling city.
bustling- full of activity.
I love living in Berlin. It has a reach culture and there is always something interesting going on.
You can meet here people from all around the world.
Berlin is great but the cost of living is really high. That can be quite stressful.
My favorite place is Berlin Zoo.
The zoo is home to nearly 20,000 animals big and small, from Arctic wolves to zebras.
Main industries include: electronics, agriculture, and the chemical industry.
